Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar, an Indian-born British American singer and musician, is well known for her musical talents. She was the youngest and first female to win an award from the British House of Commons Shield she has had Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to perform live on stage and also be a presenter for the ceremony. Anoushka Shakar, who is just a rising singer on Indian Sitar is Anoushka. She is a student and daughter of the famous Ravi Shankar. She was a child who bounded around from London in the UK to New Delhi. The first time she performed was on stage in New Delhi at the tender 13 years old. Later she moved to Encinitas CA she attended high school, graduating with distinction in 1999. Anouskha's career as a performer and recorder is quite impressive, in spite of her young age. She frequently joins her father on stage, which she's done for quite a few years. She released her debut self-titled album Anourag in the year 1998. The album was released in 2002. her Grammy nominated album Live at Carnegie Hall. She has performed at most famous venues throughout the world. Anoushka Shankar's career is not restricted to just music. Bapi The love of My Live is her 2002 novel, and was a tribute to Ravi Shankar. She also acted on movie in 2003. The role she played was that of an Bharat natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her professional career, and there will be many more things to come from this amazing woman. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent a lot of her childhood in London and Delhi then moving to California where she went to high school. From the age of nine she began studying music under her father making her performing debut on the sitar 4 years later at his birthday party in Delhi. Accompanying her father as he toured the world Anoushka had a wealth of performances in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and making recordings together with George Harrison. It is the House of Commons Shield was given an award from the British Parliament in recognition of being the most renowned Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and is the smallest recipient of this prize.
